In the article, "Should Everyone Get a Trophy?" by Lauren Tarshis, she talked about how kids get a trophy just for showing up to team practices. Our school system decided more than a decade ago to pass kids on to the next grade regardless of how successful they were on their report card.
Do you think kids should fail?

I think kid should be able to fail. If we let the kids fail it will give them motivation to work harder, so they can get back to the same grade as all there friends. I know the kids will work really hard because they want to be in the same grade as there friends, not a bunch of people they don’t know. Also all the kids will be younger and not matured.

If the kids don’t fail in school then they are set for failure in the future because they won’t know anything and won’t be able to get a job, so they are set to fail in the future. Kids need to learn that you can’t just go through life without doing any hard work. They think they can just be handed everything and they are not even trying.

Kids need more responsibility especially in the older grades. There needs to be a consequence for little to no effort. It is not fair to the kids that try very hard in school and complete all their assignments as best they can while other kids don't try and don't care but they both move on to the next grade. I think it would only help kids succeed in life if they are given the grade that they actually deserve and put the work in to.

Passing kids that don't deserve it is not fair to the teacher. The teacher puts a lot of work into their lessons and if a kid is just goofing around and not listening and not completing their work they should be given the appropriate grade not just a passing one. It would be hard for a teacher to watch a kid struggle and know they are not ready to move on but they have no choice to send them anyways.

Passing a kid when they are not ready for the next grade can be very harmful to a kid. It could really wreak their self of steam. It also will only keep making them fall farther and farther behind. When they go to highschool they will fail the course if they don't understand what is being taught.
